Nira Arora: How To Follow What Matters | EDIT10

Published on: 31st March, 2021

On this edit, Anna speaks to Nira Arora, host of Virgin Radio’s Morning Show, “Jonny, Holly + Nira.” Nira shares with Anna about her journey this past year, from homeschooling to puppy-rescuing to amplifying melanated voices. Nira candidly opens up about her past experiences with racism and micro-aggressions and teaches us all how to be better consumers of information online.

About the Guest:

Nira is a proud Island girl who grew up in Nanaimo and came to Vancouver for SFU and BCIT. Prior to joining Virgin Radio Vancouver, Nira was a host, reporter, writer, and producer for many different television shows and local magazines. She now has 20+ years of experience in the media world, 18 of those as a morning show host. Nira plays an active role in the community, volunteering her time for various charities and speaking events. Nira also keeps herself busy with freelance television and writes a column called Nira’s Hot List. Her and her husband Garry are proud parents to 2 boys and a girl, Shae, Aavi and Jaya, plus their adopted pup Sushi. Nira has a major love for: her Indian heritage, scary movies, vampire shows, spiritual healing books, impromptu living room dance parties, recreational sports, spicy food and red wine. Her personal mantra is ‘Work Hard. Play Hard. Give Back.’

Anna was born with a deep fascination for letters - a fascination that deepened when she discovered those letters could turn into words, those words into sentences and those sentences into stories. Not surprisingly, Anna graduated from The University of Victoria, with a Degree in both English and Gender Studies, fuelling her eventual mission to put the power of words back into the hands of women.

Despite multiple other certifications along the way, including one with world-renowned author and personal transformation pioneer, Deepak Chopra, it was ultimately her personal battle with post-traumatic stress, depression and anxiety that became the catalyst for the work she does now, as she helps pave the way for others to live with vulnerability and courage whether they are online, offline or on stage.
